If you belong to a group or organization that needs an interesting speaker or two for an important meeting, think about the Sisters in Crime Speakers Bureau. Sisters speak to all kinds of groups—AAUW chapters, legal secretaries’ associations, book clubs, and women’s clubs are just a few of the venues where Sisters in Crime members have given lively, entertaining programs.
Send Maureen Studer an email at SpeakersBureauNorCal@yahoo.com to find out how easy it is to line up good speakers.
Attention Member Authors: If you’re interested in being contacted, drop Maureen a line.
Speakers Bureau Q&A
Is there a charge for having our members speak?
There is no charge. Authors enjoy meeting reads and potential readers. We do appreciate the opportunity to hand sell our books after the formal talk.
Why do people use the Speakers Bureau?
SinC’s authors are well-spoken and highly entertaining! We receive requests for specific authors because the requester has seen the author at a function and been impressed, but we also can provide interesting programs with authors your organization doesn’t yet know. Since our members write everything from cozy mysteries to thrillers to humorous mysteries and zombie novels, there’s always plenty to talk about.
How does it work?
First, contact us. You can contact us from this page. You can also contact an author directly, who can refer you to us. Or someone at another organization may refer you to us.
Most of the work is done by email. We keep a list of authors who are interested in speaking, and we try to refer authors who are local to your area, to keep travel times at a minimum and provide local color for your event.
We may suggest you consider two or more speakers because it’s usually more entertaining for the audience (and more appealing for the authors) when the authors play off one another. If you’ve never coordinated an event, especially with book sales, we can provide the speakers and how-to instructions.
